Retrowagon - Sister, Sister

The first (and probably only) look back at some of the greatest ever bandwagons of out time. First up is probably the most successful sitcom of the 1990’s – Sister, Sister.

You remember the one – it was where those two adopted kids found out they had a twin sister separated at birth. Once you knew the basic plot, there was no doubt that the only thing left to happen was for hilarity to ensue each and every week.

Despite its later dominance of the comedy world, the show was initially unpopular with the American networks as the show was commissioned on the basis that a set of twins would appear. Well they did get a set of twins, but instead of the usual sexy kind, they got two frizz-hared freaks. It wasn’t until the ravishing Ray stepped in with his comedy stylings to save the show from what would have been certain cancellation within the shows first season.

Soon the twins bought some hair straighteners and the show was on the path to superstardom. It was helped along by the genius move of having the parents of two girls being total opposites – Ray was quiet and quite thin and Lisa was tall and fat. A situation never told in the hundreds of hours of situation comedy that had preceded it – two people who were forced to get along, but were completely different!!!!!

The main sign that the show was growing popular was the immortal catchphrase “Go Home Roger” – referring to the geeky next door neighbour Roger who was always trying to get busy with a frizzy (ie with one of the twins). This was taken one step further when there was a crossover with the second most popular sitcom of the 90’s – Bodger & Badger where Tamera (Tomboy Twin) shouted in a slice of delicious wit “Go Home Bodger”, which had fans weeping with joy at their television sets.

Unfortunately the show had to end when the actress who played Lisa exploded after eating too much cake. But what of the actors nowadays? Well the twins stayed away from acting and each married one of Keenan & Kel. They are currently working on writing the Ultimate Sitcom with their husbands as well as Jessie Spano from Saved by the Bell and Eltrain from City Guys. Roger set up his own estate agents called “Go Home with Roger”. As for Ray, he was the most successful, starring in a film about his own life last year, which recently won him a number of Oscars – simply titled “Ray”. A poster for his new film, out at the end of the year, is below…
